Tips
Use masking tape on pliers to help prevent them marking
your work :-)
Hi there all you beaders and wire workers!!
Look an Australian Jewellery making site! Here you will find tips and hints on everything to do with beading, threading, making findings, working with sterling silver and gold filled wire, tools you'll need and those you can make - all sorts of jewellery making information.
I've been beading for a while and it's amazing how many 'tricks' you learn while working on a new project. 'Tricks' that nobody seems to remember to tell you before you started. So here are a number of things that may seem obvious, but unless you've tried it, you just don't know about!
So what will you find on this site?
- Hints & tips
to make your jewellery making more enjoyable, a little easier and
hopefully a few new ideas for your next project.
- The basics about wire working. I've just started working with gold filled wire (which I love) and it seems that nobody has much to say about it. So if you've thought about playing around with making your own findings, coiled or caged beads, check out the "Working with Wire" section for lots of information.
- There's also a section on "beading with kids". Being a mother, I know how the kids "love to do what mummy's doing"; so there are a few ideas for them to work with while you work. My daughters (aged 5 & 7) have even posted a few things they have designed and made!
- Jewellery projects, with instructions on how to make eye pins, catches, as well as bracelets, ear rings and necklaces. There are both wire projects and beading projects. Have a look and see what you like.
- A jewellery supply shop! That has wire supplies (beading wire, gold filled wire, sterling silver wire, copper wire), some jewellery wire tools, findings and a few jewellery kits to get you started.
So have a look around and check back regularly as I will be frequently updating with new info.
All the information on this site is based on things that I have found, read, experienced, and been told. I am not a professional jeweller, just somebody who enjoys making jewellery.
